National Dementia Education and Training Standards Framework Levels

Updated over a month ago

Learning Pathways uses knowledge levels to classify learning opportunities and act as a guide for what outcomes students should expect to achieve at different educational stages, with each level building on the previous one. These levels directly correlate to the four Tiers of Learning described within the National Dementia Education and Training Standards Framework.

Tiers description

See all the Tiers described below:

  • Introductory

Provides basic dementia knowledge and information relevant to all people working with, or supporting a person living with dementia.

  • Foundational

Builds on the Introductory level and provides the knowledge and education that should be required of all health and aged care staff working directly with, or having substantial contact with, a person living with dementia and their carers.

  • Enhanced Practice

Building on the Introductory and Foundational levels, Enhanced Practice is aimed at practitioners who wish to develop a deeper knowledge and skill base for working with people living with dementia and their carers, or those progressing to become dementia specialist practitioners.

  • Advanced Practice / Expertise

Building on the previous three levels, this tier provides the advanced knowledge and skills required for the development of dementia specialists, researchers, and thought and practice leaders, who play key leadership roles in the advancement of understanding, evidence, innovation, support, and treatment for people living with dementia and their carers.
